Question:
Dr Titus Duncan or Dr Daniel C Smith
Hello, I really would like to hear from pre/post op's about either of theses two doctors. I was advised by my wonderful doctor to go to Emory and see Dr. Smith. However I have read where he has had deaths to where as Dr. Duncun has not. I also feel Emory is a better hop than Atlanta Medical Center, should I give a lot of thought to what hop and weigh that equally to the doc? Or should doc be the only thing I need to consider? Please give me any feed back. I was so sure about Dr. Duncan until I was advised to go to Emory, by a doc a really love and trust. — bleever (posted on August 15, 2002)

I'm 6 weeks pre-op with Dr. Duncan and Atlanta Medical was a concern for me
too. Its my understanding, that they have a portion of a floor just for
WLS as well as Atlanta Medical has 2 operating rooms newly furnished just
for Dr. Duncan's surgery. Another consideration, at Emory you are going to
be dealing with residents more than your Dr. My opinion, if I had something
life threating illness- I would go to Emory because they are on the cutting
edge of new technology. Dr. Duncan has 2 surgeons operating with him and
you will be seeing one of the 3 during your stay. I understand where you
are in this decision -- My advise is keep researching until you feel
comfortable.

Hey, I had my surgery in Gainesville Georgia with Dr. Dan Procter and Dr.
Richards assisting. They are excellent. I interviewed a lot of surgeons
and found him and his program to be the best around. He has great bedside
manner and his psychologist helps you a lot with your food issues. he has
a complete program. Dr. procter is the best! I will be three weeks out on
monday and doing so good. I was feeling fantastic a week out. Dr. Procter
has 20 years experience doing this surgery and he has a support and
informative meeting first saturday of each month. i would go just for the
support and the information. he attends all of them and you will get to
meet everyone.

If those were the only two choices in Atlanta, I would chose Dr. Duncan
hands down. You will probably get in quickly for your appointment, but the
surgery will be months away. Dr. Duncan only requires that you stay in the
hospital 24 hours, with no complications. Other doctors are Christopher
Hart, M.D., Dennis Smith, M.D., Ken Champion, M.D. -- all are excellent for
lap RNY (and Dennis Smith, MD does the DS). Good luck on your choice.

Dr. Duncan; I have done alot of research on the Dr.'s and he has had less
complications, no deaths, and that is the only thing you should be worried
about. Your health is most important in this surgery. He has a long wait
but its worth it.
