Question:
Does anyone know of a weight loss friendly medical doctor in the NY/Long Island area
I was seeing my own doctor and when I told her I was considering having the surgery, she did not think it was a good idea. I just called my insurance company and they told me I would need a letter of medical necessity from my doctor. If you know of any doctors in the NY/Long Island area that are weight loss friendly, please let me know. — Lisa N. (posted on August 9, 2002)

Lisa, I am sure you can find many doctors in this area that are WLS
friendly. Personally, I would call around and ask them up front. However,
I can also suggest my doctor. I have seen him for many years, so he was
well aware of my history, but he was very supportive and offered to write a
letter to my surgeon. He has struggled with his own battle with obesity,
so maybe that's why. He is located on Stewart Avenue in Garden City, right
off the Meadowbrook. He isn't exactly Mr. Personality, but there has been
something I have always liked and I now have three friends and three family
members who seem him as well. He is affiliated with Winthrop, LIJ, and I
believe North Shore. If you email me directly, I will send you his info.
