Question:
I'm fixing to go to an informational seminar on WLS - will they weigh us then, or
will they wait until our individual appointments later to weigh us - OR both? — Lindsey S. (posted on July 18, 2002)

Lindsay, While I suppose that anything is possible, I cannot imagine that
there would be weigh-ins at an informational seminar about WLS. The
purpose of the seminars are to give us information about the surgery not
get information about us. My surgeon was very casual about weighing me.
He didn't have a scale that could weigh me so he just asked me what I
thought I weighed, based on previous weights and whether I thought I had
gained or lost any weight recently. I wasn't officially weighed until I
reported to the hospital for surgery and that was reported in kilos not
pounds. Since I can't do math in my head I had to ask for a translation
from the anaesthesiologist. Even now, 8 months and 121 pounds later, the
surgeon still asks me what I weigh and doesn't make me get on the scale
unless I want to. He is more concerned with how I feel and how much
exercise I am able to do than what the numbers are. Good luck on your
journey to good health. My prayers are with you.

I was not weighed until my appointment with the surgeon. My information
session consisted of a video about morbid obesity and the various
surgeries, an explanation of the nutrional aspects, turning in our
paperwork that we had received prior to the class and question/answer
time. I agree with the previous poster, I doubt there would be a weigh-in-
what would be the point? But anything is possible since all surgeons seem
to do just about everything differently....
