Hi Amy, I'm sorry, I haven't heard of surgery to prevent obesity. Trust me, if there was such a surgery I would have had it probably in my mid 20's. I'm 32 now, 3-weeks post op, my highest weight was 303, when I had surgery my weight was 293. Obviously you see a pattern, well so did I, at 28 I weighed around 260, I was 210 when I graduated high school. I am also 5-7, my ideal weight according to the Bariatric Treatment Center is 140, so you are 50 pounds away from goal. I don't want to discourage you, however, I think maybe at this point you may be able to get your weight under control, before it gets out of control. So far my weight loss surgery diet is, low-fat, high-protein, no sugar. I eat around 900 calories per day, and I eat about 6 times per day, no more than 1 cup of food at a time. I also walk 4-times per day, 30 minutes each time. Maybe you could try following the "weight loss surgery" eating habits to help lose the weight. You may even be able to see a nutrionist at a bariatric treatment center. I would be lying if I told you that I wish when I was 190 I would have gotten my weight under control. I am thankful for the surgery and would have the surgery again, but if I had my life to do over again I would have gotten the weight under control at an early age. Eat to live.....not live to eat. Good luck to you, Stacey

You might be a good LAP BAND candidate. Lower cost, fully reversible. Mexican surgeons do this really affordably. You could be self pay. Heres the URL for Monica who lives in southern california. Good luck on your serch for a solution.

I also have the "fat genes" in my family, and have also passed them to my daughter. We also have a serotonin deficiency that makes us crave carbs. Hence we are all carb addicts. I understand completely your frustration with this. You see what's down the road and really want to avoid it. I don't blame you. I tried to avoid it myself, with no good results. Your "fat genes" may not have the hold on you that mine have. Try very hard to remain active, eat healthy, never overeat at a meal, and try not to yoyo diet. That really messes up your metabolism. See a nutritionist. It sounds like it will be a challenge for you for the rest of your life, and my heart goes out to you. I'm 48 now and was right about where you are when I was 28. Good luck!!!
