Question:
How do I alleviate this feeling...
How do I illeviate this feeling of something being stuck in my throat? I am almost 3 weeks post RNY. I had egg for breakfast this morning (it is NOW 1:20 a.m. I've had it before and not had a problem. I have since drank 60 ounces of water, had yogurt and some mashed potatoe. Everything has gone down fine, no vomitting and that feeling is STILL there. I've read the library and while many have experienced this no says how to get RID of the feeling! Do I need to call my doctor?? — Jacque P. (posted on June 8, 2002)

You may be experiencing a stress/anxiety related condition called
"Globus Hystericus". It comes and goes. In some cases, symptoms
can be helped with the use of an anti-anxiety medication. I had the same
thing happen to me years ago when I was on a Doctor-Supervised diet.
Luckily I worked for a psychiatrist at the time who knew right away what it
was. I never had to go on meds but he told me that it could have helped
had it contunued for a long period of time. Once day I just noticed it
stopped. If this is not what you are experiencing I hope you do find out
what it is. Good Luck !

I had this EXACT same thing happen to me at about 3 weeks post op too.
Don't panic. I at the egg at around 7pm on a Saturday night, and the
nausea was still there on Sunday evening when I finally called my surgeon.
He thought I had a stricture. Anyway, on Monday I was scheduled for my
first post op check up and he had me go to the hospital for and upper GI
(where you drink that nasty stuff) to have it checked. However, by Monday,
I would say 90% of the nausea was gone and by later in the day completely
gone. I had the upper GI anyway just to make sure and I did not have a
stricture. I did try drinking a little bit (less than an ounce, with ice
cube) of diet Sprite a couple of times. I thought it might help to
"bubble" it out of there. I'm not sure it helped. I did that 3
times over the course of 2 days, and the nausea got better between Saturday
night and Sunday. Don't worry. See if the nausea gets better during the
day today (Saturday). Good luck.

I got the same feeling, I don't know if it was from drinking to fast or
what. It did go away.

I felt like I had something stuck in my throat for about the first 4 weeks
after surgery. It eventually went away on it's own. It's hard to say if
this is the same thing you're experiencing, but it sounds similar. Sorry I
couldn't provide more advice. Good luck!
