Question:
Doc Does a new procedure with pouch. What is the differences

I went to a support group last night and the nurse was telling us old post op people that the dr. does the pouch differently. He now totally seperates the pouch from the stomach so they are not connected at all. With me they are still connected with stapples. I had made the comment to her that he should have did disconnected mine but she said he didn't do it that way back then. I also told her I don't think this surgery is working well because I eat alot and also tolerate surgar good. What's the difference between your stomache being connected with staples and not being connected at all?    — Melissa S. (posted on June 3, 2002)

The difference is the risk of the staples 'breaking down'. With staples, they could 'break down' in other words, you could get a 'hole' in your pouch, and food would 'leak' into your stomach; letting you 'overeat'. With the stomach disectted, tho the pouch and stomach, on rare occasions can 'reconnect'getting the same results as the staple disruption. But other than 'this problem' there is no difference.
