Question:
How can I get rid of this gas problem?
I am 16 months post op now. I just started having this problem. I can drink milk with no problems. Actually the only thing I can't eat is lettuce. I have diarrhea for days eating this. Should I take Gas-x everyday? How much of it? I stay away from carbs. I don't eat pasta, rice or bread. Help. — Sandy P. (posted on May 17, 2002)

Stay off the milk for a week and see what happens.

Hi I am 12 months post-op & have had a terrible time with gas since
about 6 months post-op. It took several months of research (trying
different things) and then my father came up with the answer for me....now
this may not apply to everyone, but you might give it a try....cut all diet
sugars...sorbital, nutra-sweet...saccrine....etc. I know that giving up
those things that say "sugarfree" or "no sugar added"
might be a bummer, but it is worth a try to see if the sweetners are
causing the problem. Since I have cut them out of my diet (two weeks) I
have only had very minimal gas (what I would consider normal). The other
day, I had a beverage with nutrasweet in it & BAM, that painful, smelly
gas was back!! Good Luck...if it is not the sweetners, use the process of
elimination from your diet!! Karan down 120#s
