Question:
Starting Fleet bowel prep on May 15th, anyone use it?
Can anyone tell me what a Fleet 3 bowel prep kit consists of and how tramatizing it is? Thanks! — KCAllen77 (posted on May 13, 2002)

I had to do a Fleet prep also. I'm not sure what the number was but it was
in a purple box. It consisted of a suppository (which I did not have to
use), three or four laxatives in pill-form and a little bottle of liquid
that you mix with a glass of water to drink. I had to drink the liquid
first. Of course it was nasty (very salty tasting) but luckily there isn't
too much of it to drink. Then later that evening I had to take the pills.
It took the liquid about 1/2 hour to "kick in". Then I was in
the bathroom all day. The whole thing wasn't too awfully bad.

I had to do the Fleets 2 hospital prep. It had the liquid drink which was
disgusting, then the four little pills and a bag enema. It was not as bad
as I thought.

Hi Keesha ~ It's not a 'great' experience, that's for sure but you can make
it a bit easier on yourself by preparing yourself before you ever even
start the process with vaseline on the behind. Use babywipes to wipe in
between all the runs to the bathroom but don't throw them down the john,
trust me on this one. Have a lined trash can close by and use the vaseline
/ babywipes technique after each and every use...it will make your
experience much less traumatic and not as painful. I've heard of people
who are just crying by the end of their prep - not from pain but just the
soreness that occurs from that much wiping. I used this technique and I
slept like a baby the day before my surgery. May the best of blessings be
carried into that hospital - let us know how your doing, okay? :) Good
luck.

I had to drink the citrate magnesium stuff and then do 2 fleet enemas, one
before bed and one in the a.m. before leaving for hospital. I had NEVER had
an enema before so was unsure what the expect. It wasn't exactly pleasant
adminstering it - LOL - but wasn't painful or too uncomfortable, you just
make a few trips to the bathroom. I was concerned about doing the one in
the morning and then having the 1 1/2 hour drive to the hospital, but I got
up 1 hour early and did fine, I was so empty by then anyway - ha! Actually
enemas were the least of my concerns the nite before surgery, had much
bigger fears on my mind then so was just a good distraction - ha - best of
luck, you'll do fine...Lisa (post-op 9 wks, -37 lbs)

Keesha, dear, whatever you do-- don't make the same mistake I did... my
"last meal" was VERY, VERY spicy! I'd never had to do a bowel
prep before... so didn't know any better... I didn't have baby wipes OR
vaseline and was a very, very sad camper all through the night. Talk about
a dumb-a$$ thing to do!!

So, I guess those burritos I planned on tonight are out of the question?
