Question:
Has anyone had a tummy tuck at 6 months post-op?
I've been having quite a bit of pain in my belly button area and went to see my doctor. She discovered that I have a very large hernia that will need to be taken care of. I also have a large pannus and I know that I will need some type of reconstructive surgery in the future. I would like to get the hernia taken care of ASAP, and am wondering if I should go ahead and get a tummy tuck at the same time, for insurance issues. I am 6 months out and have lost 100 pounds and am 25 pounds from my personal goal and 45 pounds from my surgeon's designated goal weight. I'm wondering if anyone has had a tummy tuck this early in the game. Thanks. Paulette — Paulette W. (posted on May 13, 2002)

I too had an umbilical hernia but my PCP told me to wait to have it fixed
until I was ready for the tummy tuck. I went for my consult with the
plastic surgeon because I wanted to get it done before my insurance ran out
at the end of the year. I had lost 122 and the plastic surgeon said he
wanted me to lose another 20 but that he would do it if I didn't. I had
the TT and hernia repair and lost another 9 or 10 pounds since then. That
has been over 4 months and my weight has stayed the same so I think I am
done. My PCP says he DOES NOT want me losing any more weight.

Hi, I am six months out and I am scheduled for gall bladder removal and
tummy tuck just 4 days prior to my 7 month wls anniversary. I am 3 lbs
from surgeon's goal and 8 from my own "personal" goal. So, with
the removal of skin and "fat" deposits, I will probably make my
personal goal after the TT. I don't want to lose any more...I'm at a size
8 now..will be a 6 after the TT and don't want to get any smaller than
that. Good luck.
