I cant not stomach protein shakes. After months of searching I have found a
protein Bar that is fairly good. It is Called " Advant Edge" by a
company called EAS I only like the cookies and cream flavor bar. The only
place thats sells them that I know of is Wal-Mart.They have only 2 carbs
and no sugar and have 25 grams of protein. you can take all day to eat it
also. Before I found this bar I used cottage cheese as my main protein
source. When I get sick of it , I add cool whip, yogurt and sugar free
pudding and run it through the blender til it is smooth. Taste like a a
fancy pudding. And a serving has around 20 grams of protein depending on
your yogurt.

You don't have to drink protein drinks to get your protein. I never did
and my doctor never recommended it either. He wanted me to eat real food
and I have. I had open RNY on November 5, 2001 and I am down 110# in just
5.5 months. I started out with low fat yogurt and I used Swanson's 99% fat
free chicken broth to make simple hot drinks or soups. I still have yogurt
almost every day, I still use the chicken broth in my homemade, low fat
soups. I almost always use ground turkey meat in my soups because it is
low fat and higher in protien then other meats (except for fish). I
usually include some type of bean with my soups as they are a good source
of protein as well. I drink one 8 ounce glass of fat free milk a day with
Swiss Miss sugar free hot chocolate mix added and I get extra protein by
adding fat free powdered milk to it. I eat low fat cheese and I use eggs
or egg substitues for cooking. All of these items are high in protein. I
have just begun adding fresh fruit to my diet. When I was a new post-op
and eating soft foods, I ate refried beans, Hormels Turkey Chili, egg drop
soup, cottage cheese, yogurt, spinach souffles, scrambled egg substitues
with a little cheese thrown in and my hot coco mix. If you shop carefully
at the grocery store and read the lables and plan your meals you can get
your protein in and be fine without resorting to the protein drinks that
are expensive and aren't all that palatable. Good luck

I still use the whey protein drinks. I can get 30g of protein in a drink
that is thin, and only 4 oz. I mix with water, so I'm just getting the
protein, no calorie waste. It's fast, it's easy, and because it's
"runny", it doesn't push the limits. I do 6-8 per day just now
(high stress time).

I also found that life was much easier once I found a protein drink that I
liked. Now I look forward to drinking it. There are some BAD ones out
there, but there are some GOOD ones too. I couldn't get all of my protein
in with foods either. And I felt like I was thinking all the time about
what protein I was going to eat next. It seemed like I had to think about
food way too much. Now I feel free of that. I know I'm getting my protein
in and I don't have to stress about it all day. I am free to eat what I
want, not having to worry about eating 'protein first' all the time.

I never once drank a protein drink. I hated them. Instead, I would eat a
can of tuna, a string cheese, chicken or another high-protein food. In the
long run, I'm glad I did this, because now I'm easily able to get in all my
protein from food, and I'm not dependent on supplements. I'm 13.5 months
post-op, and all labs are normal.

There is also "tasteless" protein powder, you can mix it with
soups, yogurt, anything. Since it's tasteless you're not suppose to know
it's there. I heard of GNC having this, and vitalady.com
