Question:
I am 7 weeks post op. I have lost 40 lbs, but only 6 lbs in the last 3 weeks.
Is this normal. I have been following the rules I think. I am afraid i am doing something wrong. — Kathryn L. (posted on April 24, 2002)

You sound like you are on a plateau! Go to the library page on this site
and read all about them. I know from weeks 4-6 I did not lose anything and
all the insight and comments from site members on the library site
regarding plateaus got me through it. And you know what, they were right!
Good luck and don't despair. You lost 40 lbs!!!

Kathryn, congrats on the 40 lost-good job! Those plateaus are pesky. I
was on one at week 3 that lasted 12 days and since then have experienced
some minor ones-I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. Heres what I did to move the plateau
along-ensured the protein was over 75 grams a day (added a protein shake
each day), exercised more (increased from 3 to 4 days a week), lowered my
carb intake a little and tried to increase the water. After a few days, it
works..so far!!

Girl, do I know what you are talking about! I am ten weeks today, but
weeks 3,4,and 5 were not very kind to me! I was doing everything I could
possibly do - the works! Yet, at on my weigh day each week, no matter how
many people told me a plateau at that point was normal - I found myself
crying about how this surgery was not going to work. GOOD NEWS - It
finally broke, and the weight finally started melting off. If you are
already following all the rules - exercise, water, protein, etc. - just
keep on doing what you are doing and most importantly keep your spirits up.
Don't let the plateau break you, and you will soon break it! I am now
down 52 pounds, but regardless of that number, I am already down a lot in
inches: 5 off of my chest, 7 1/2 off waist, 6 1/4 of hips and 9 1/4 off my
thighs (total). I hope you are keeping measurements, especially if you
exercise. There are times that the tape measure was able to cheer me up,
whne I felt the scale was letting me down. Good luck!
