Question:
Has anyone ever had pain like this before?
I am 4 days post op. Lap rny. I have been feeling better everyday. Then today around 9 am I got the worst intense and constant pinchy crampy pains on my right side. It's nowhere near my front, just my side and shooting towards my back on the right side. It has stayed strong all day long and hasn't let up at all. All of my insicions were more towards the left side of my stomach and none of them even come close to where the pain is. It has been constant all day long, but I was trying to ride it out because I have an apt tomorrow afternoon to get my drain out. Does anyone have a clue as to what I did or what could have happened to cause this. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Jeannette — Jeannette P. (posted on April 15, 2002)

The first thing I think of is LIVER. I really know nothing. Sorry.

of course, your doctor will be the one to diagnose this, however, i also
had rt. side pain right after surgery. i had a work up for kidney
stones, negative. blood work, all a-ok. the pain was relieved by percocet
but i didnt want to keep taking it so i toughed it out most days. after
much discussion between the surgeon and my local pcp, it was decided it was
a pulled muscle. it is much better now at 7 weeks post op but i can still
feel where it was. i think i used muscles that have never ever been used
before! i was very sedentary preop and have tons of energy now and i'm very
active. either that or they dropped me in the operating room and didnt tell
me :) your doctor needs to know about it and rule out anything serious. but
as for my pain, it is improving daily but it took quite a while. good luck
and you have my sympathy cause it really hurt!

Do you still have your gall bladder? just a thought.

I'm thinking along the same lines as Tammy. I had my gallbladder out and
still get some pains in that area.
Sounds like it might be that, wether or not it was or was'nt taken out.

I am the original poster of this question. I just wanted to let everyone
know what had happened in case it will help someone else in the future. I
had that pain in my side for the entire day, then took some pain meds and
fell asleep. When I woke the next morning the pain had shifted to my groin
area. It literally felt like someone was stabbing me in my pubic area.
Turns out what it was was my drain. It had fallen into my pelvis. I had
an apt late this afternoon to get it out, and immediately the pain was
gone. Thanks so much to everyone who tried to help. It means the world to
me. In situations like this with being a new post op and having pain.. you
guys always make me feel like I'm not alone. Thanks again to all of you.
