Question:
Has anyone been diagnosed compulsive, and had a problem being approved?

I had my syc test today and the psychologist told me that I am compulsive, and know I am bothered by this. I am wondering if this might hurt my chances to get approved. How can anyone make a judgemant like that in about 20 minutes? He told me that he thought I was compulsive because of my sleeping habits and the way that I eat. I am a lite sleeper and I eat alot at one sitting. So that makes me compulsive? He also told me that he is worried that I wouldnt want to follow the rules to the sugery and I would eat something that would hurt me and that was his concern, but he also said that I was mentally stable to handle the surgery, that alot of overweight people are compulsive. I think that should'nt get you denied. I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and have seen a therapist for over 3 years now. All this means is that when you get stuck on something (an idea, an action, goal, etc), you follow it through almost maniacally. I do this alot. It can be a good thing, like sticking to your diet or a bad thing, like eating a lot at one sitting. I firmly believe that if you are mentally stable to handle the surgery, then you shouldn't be denied. After all, that's all they are looking for, to see if you are mentally stable and whether or not you are doing this for the right reasons (to become healthier) or bad reasons (you want to be as thin as Kate Moss!) I wouldn't worry about it too much. Good luck!

I don't know about compulsive being enough to cause a problem but I DO KNOW that this awful psychiatrist I went to refused to clear me for this surgery because 6 months ago I asked my PCP for Prozac! I am so stressed - her awful evaluation could have meant automatic denial of the surgery for me, but I prevented that. My advice - get this letter read to you BEFORE it goes anywhere for ins. approval! Good Luck ; )
