Question:
Help, I need a PCP friendly to WLS in the Irving, TX area.

I am wanting to have RNY and I need a PCP that is favorable to this type of surgery for a referal. I have Pacificare HMO of Texas and live in Irving, TX. Could somebody please recommend a dr.? Thanks! Jeri    — Jeri G. (posted on March 14, 2002)

I went to Dr. Cowan in Fort Worth over by Ridgmar Mall. He was very supportive of my decision. I have a PPO so I really did not need a referral from him, but I did need a letter stating I did not have any underlying conditions. The phone number is 817-737-7000.

I don't know how your insurance works, but I kinda bypassed my pcp altogether. I made an appt with the Bariatric Treatment Center in Wylie (just a tad further to drive, but easy to get to), they handled my insurance from the very begining, I never even talked to my insurance company. After my initial consultation I went to my PCP, he was wishy-washy about WLS, but he was willing to order the test on my heart through the hospital (don't remember the name of the test) and was able to refer me to a pulmonary specialist. For my psych I saw a psychologist that I already knew. It was so easy going through BTC, the staff and the doctors over there can't be beat, my experience with them has been nothing short of wonderful :)

I know it ,ay be a long drive, but my PCP has got to be the most wonderful doctor in the business. Dr. Caplan in south Arlington. He sent me for blood work and testing for sleep apnea, and x-rays to help prove that my aches and pains were real enough to my insurance company. He really wanted me to go to Dr. Provost (who from what I understand is the BEST in the field). He is very supportive and his staff is wonderful.

Hi, check out Dr. Justice at 972-790-5209 (her office is at 183 and Esters). Her office is in the Walmart shopping center, which I was worried about, but it is so immaculate and spacious, not to mention well run. I was very impressed. I went to her as a new patient on Wednesday. I mentioned WLS to the nurse taking my vitals and she said that alot of their patients have had it done and are really looking good. When the doctor saw me for the first time she said "do you have a referral yet"? I told her I didn't need one and she said, "well if you ever do, just let me know". So I think you should see if she is in your network.
