Question:
I (well, mostly my DH, wonders how long after open RNY can sex be resumed?

I am only posting anon. because I NEVER talk in the open about my sex life, but I was about 12 days out from my open RNY when my DH and I had sex the first time, he was very careful, gentle and slow!! Good Luck and HAVE FUN!! heehee

hi i had open rny on the 5th dec 2001 and was sent home from the hospital on the 11th dec ... as soon as i got in the door and put down my bags my husband and i got it on....lol... of course we took it slow...kinda like when i had the 3 kids but was no problem i felt like it reconnected us on a personal level as we has had to just hold hands and kiss whilst in hospital...of course...but i missed that deeper connection... i asked the surgeon when we could start relations and he said when your ready...good enough answer for me...

My doc says the same thing....as soon as you feel able. One thing to think of though:your stomach muscles (at least mine do) tighten up when you orgasm. I was a little sore from that the next day. But hey, it was worth it!

Geez..I am amazed by all of you! I am 6 weeks Post op open RNY and I JUST began to feel like a human being about a week ago, and even then, my hormones are so messed up by the surgery that I have zero libido. Thank God my DH is understanding and sweet, but even if he wasn't I wouldn't do it until I felt ready!

It was a while for me. I just didn't want it and not to mention the pain you are in after surgery. Like the other poster said, I didn't feel normal for at least 6 weeks. Sore, no energy and no desire. It will totally be up to you. When you feel up to it. Good luck.

ORIGINAL POSTER HERE- thanks for all the responses- AL- I'll tell him- I was thinking along the 4-6 week range (if I am lucky) - he'll be patient- (he'll have to be, right) and to the poster who had sex just after getting home- more power to you and by the way, what vitamins do you take???

I asked this question at my 10 day staple removal visit. I was told that as long as I felt like it I could resume right away. Just be careful not to smoosh m,y tummy. (I had open). I went back to having sex at about 2 1/2 weeks post op. Had NO PROBLEMS just had to take it slow and be careful how I moved.
