Question:
What can I do for lack of energy?
Hi Everyone. I am 3 wks post op-down 37 lbs. Sometimes I have NO energy. I had an open RNY, feel good. However I am not getting all my protein in, nor am I drinking enough. I just cannot force anything down. Any suggestions? — Joanne S. (posted on January 26, 2002)

You have probably answered your own question. You are just three weeks out
from major surgery. And you need to drink. The protein is important, but
not as much as fluid consumption. Try to drink as much water and other
fluids as you can - you really don't want to become dehydrated. And then
concentrate on the protein. This early, it's hard to get a lot of protein,
so don't worry too much about that.
Hope your energy picks up.

I totally agree with the previous poster... I felt soo much like you did at
3 weeks and I knew darn good and well that I was not keeping myself
hydrated...as well as not getting enough protein in. There is a protein
drink that is water based like punch.. I mixed it early on with Crystal
Light. Now that I get plenty of protein I do NOT do protein drinks. But
I am soo careful to get at least 6 of the 8 waters in daily.. remember that
is 6 to 8 (8oz) 1 cup glasses... I measure mine!!!!! My best to you and I
hope you are feeling better soon....

I'm only 10 days post and it sounds like I feel a lot better than you. I'm
even taking roxicet pain meds (because the right side of my abdomen still
aches a little) which is supposed to make you tired. My energy level is
good... I do get exhausted with shopping or cleaning the house, etc.. but I
don't sleep, I just sit down and rest a few minutes. But, I am drinking a
LOT of water. I mean a LOT. I'm just so thirsty now and I can't seem to
get enough of ice water.
