I have Cigna PPO and am scheduled for surgery 1/17. I didn't have any
problems. They approved me on the first request. Good luck.

I had Cigna PPO and so far everything has been going fine. My surgery was
Dec. 17th and so far all the bills have been covered like they should be.
The worst part about dealing with Cigna though was waiting for
pre-determination. One I go the letter saying they would pay for the
surgery then everything moved fast. I started the process in October and
like I stated before my surgery was Dec. 17th. The reason I was so intent
on getting surgery before the end of the year was because our family had
reached the total out of pocket for the year so the 10% for in network that
I would be responsible for was not a factor at this time. I look at it as
maximizing my benefits. Again Cigna has been fine to deal with so far.
Best of Luck!

I have Cigno PPO as well. I was approved within one week and am scheduled
for surgery on Jan 29th. I called them once every two days which moved
things along with approval. Be kind and courteous. Everyone I talked to at
Cigna was very helpful! Good luck!

I have cigna POS.. which is a part of the cigna hmo, and I had no problems
getting covered. I started my insurance process the end of september was
approved in less than 2 weeks, and had my surgery on November 7th. But
there are some pre-op who i know who had more co-morbs than me and were not
approved threw cigna... I am not sure if they had the PPO, POS or HMO.
Best of luck.

I have Cigna PPO and I had to threaten a lawsuit to be approved. Read my
profile for details. Let me know if you'd like to see the letter I sent in
answer to their denial.

My CIGNA PPO approved my lap RNY within 3 weeks of the first request. They
were wonderful to work with, and also approved my recent abdominoplasty and
armlift surgery on the first request. Good luck!

I have Cigna PPO and find them to be nothing short of Horrific! I have had
horror stories about them. My doctor submitted my paperwork in mid-June for
surgery that was to be held August 1, 2002...I did not receive an answer
until about 3 pm the day before surgery (July 31st)...they took about 6
weeks to get an answer and the only reason why I got one then was because I
would not quit with calling them and finding out the status. That made them
move a little quicker, plus I found someone that helped me tremendously and
without her help, I definitely would not have had an answer in time. I was
denied that time. I thought my doctor's office was going to file an appeal
(that was what I was told), but they didn't. Anyway, my doctor's office had
to resubmit the paperwork (about 4 months later) because the girl who
handled it originally had left the practice and never appealed. Just found
out AGAIN, that I was denied. I have never gotten such a run around from a
company before in my life. I had heard that the Cigna office that reviews
the pre-determination in this area usually always denies and you have to
follow-up with an appeal. So that's what I am about to start doing. Hope
you have better luck with them that I have been having. Boy do I wish I
would have dropped them during open enrollment. Big mistake on my part, but
I will fight this! Good luck to you.

I am currently receving the same Horrific Run Around from Cigna. I have
jumped through every hoop. They changed their criteria for WLS in May
again. They denied my surgeon's pre-detemination. The surgeon's office
would not appeal, so I filed an appeal and was told to go ahead with the
surgery and if Cigna denies it, then appeal again. Any advice.
