Question:
Am I the one this is not going to work for??
I had an open rny 7/17/01. As of this morning, I am down 66.3 lbs. Now, of course I'm happy about that. However, next week will be five months out for me - and I'm just not losing the way I see other people on the site lose. I'm getting nervous that I'm doing things wrong...or that this just isn't going to work for me. I see people talk about 10 lbs a month weight loss - and after the first few months, my losses really slowed down. I'm making myself crazy!! Help!! — blee01 (posted on December 10, 2001)

Repeat after me......EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT. We all lose at different
rates. Also, the more weight you have to lose, the faster the initial wt
loss.
If you are doing what you KNOW you should be doing and following your
surgeon's instructions then you are doing fine. Don't compare, it's not
worth the
aggravation. I could quote a ton more cliche's but won't bore you with
them.

Okay, from what I see, it is working for you. We all lose at a different
pace. I had open RNY 8/22 and am down approx. 50 pounds. Not as much as I
would like but I am definately no boo-hooing about it. After all, before
surgery I had a hard time losing 1 pound starving myself. Now I can eat,
am satisfied, and I'm losing weight. What could be better than that?
Don't worry yourself to pieces. It will happen in time. :)

I'm also a slow loser...and was sometimes discouraged by my 10 pound a
month loss. Actually, you are losing an avg. of a little more than that.
The good news is, that after 17 months, I am still losing! It's slow...but
it's steady, and it's sure. Although I am not quite to "ideal"
on the insurance company weight charts...I am at my personal goal, and I
have exceeded my personal goal as far as body size goes. I was perfectly
happy as a size 8 pants...and now my size 6's are a little roomy. I see a
size 4 (I can hardly believe it) in my future. So...please don't be
discouraged, we are all so very different. So many of those who lost
weight rapidly at first never got to their goal weight. Hang in there.

My DH and I both had surgery on 10/23/01. He is losing at twice the rate
Iam, as I knew he would. It is anoying but I won't let it drive me crazy,
I just whine a little. You are doing very well, but you can whine a
little, but try not to obsess about it.

My surgery was 6/20 so I'm about a month ahead of you. I've lost 65 pounds
and I'm more than half way to my goal. There are others in my support
group that are only a month behind me and they're almost at goal. I think
it's so hard to be patient. I still get surprised by every five pound
drop. But, they keep coming. Keep updating your profile and you'll see
the progress. Sounds to me like you're doing fine.
