Yes, this is a Greenfield, or vena cava filter. I also have one. About
three years ago I developed a bad blod clot in my knee, as well as having a
vein in my right leg develop a leak at the same time. The surgeon put the
filter in while he was repairing the leak in my vein. The filter goes in
through a vein in your groin area, but actally sits somewhere in your
abdomen. In a way, it's kind of nice knowing that I'm going into my
surgery (Jan. 14th)with a filter already installed. I won't worry as much
about blood clots. I do, however, intend to be up and walking ASAP.

I too had a Greenfield filter installed prior to surgery. It saved my
life! I had 3 doctors tell me so. It does not prevent blood clots, as I
got them in both legs! Painful and I had to go to therapy to learn how to
walk after being on my back for 3 months. As I said, it does not prevent
clots, but it will sure keep you from having a pulmanary embolisim. Thank
you Greenfield filter!
