Question:
Does anyone ever loose weight TOO FAST?

Just curious if any of you out there...lost your weight TOO fast...or if you lost TOO much. How does your body know when to stop losing? Has anyone ever gotten TOO thin from this surgery???    — Shawnie S. (posted on December 6, 2001)

I can't imagine losing weight too fast. The faster the better I say! I hope some day that somebody tells me I am too thin. What a kick that would be!

There are a couple of women in the chat room who are having some problems with too much weight loss. I don't know their real names so I don't know how to get to their profiles, if they have them. I do know one was saying if she lost one more pound they were going to go the feeding tube route, though even with the problems she's having I know she has said she'd do the surgery again. Since she discussed this openly in the chat room I hope I'm not saying anything out of line by answering your question this way.

I had my surgery in May and I've lost 78lbs so far. I went from a size 20 to a size 6. I dont want to lose too fast becuase Im afraid I wont keep it off. I dont exercise too much just some light walking 4 days a week. I would like to lose about 15 more lbs. Noone has said I am too skinny though that would be a first!!!

I had a lap roux-n-y on June 6, 2002. I have lost 56 lbs since then. The loss was initially about 1.3 lbs per day. It has now slowed to about .5 lb per day. The doctor expects it to slow further so that it is 2-3 lbs per week. As to your question about how the body knows when to stop. It takes a lot of calories to move a fat body. It takes fewer to move a thin body. As you lose fat you require fewer calories. On the other hand, as you gain muscle you need more calories. I was told the body hits a natural balance point when you have lost 1/2 - 2/3 of your obesity. However, I hope to lose more than that and would love to see my target weight...if only once in life.
