I had an open-RNY and as I recall I think Slimfast products have too much
sugar for us. I do protein supplements, but have never used the sugar-free
Instant Breakfast which I do read about many people using. Good luck!

My nutritionist said things like boost, Slimfast, nestle sweet success,
etc, had to much sugar in them and weren't good choices. She suggested
instead (if you can't stand pro drinks) get the flavorless pro and sprinkle
it in things, like over your soup, in your sf pudding, etc. There is no law
that says we have to get all the pro in one drink:) good luck

I had Lap/RNY almost 5 months ago (proximal) and I drink SlimFast
occasionally with my nutritionist's blessing. I've used it from early
post-op. I have never dumped from it. It does contain about 35 grams of
sugar but I have not had any problems at all. It also contains 10 grams of
protein and lots of vitamins and is very satisfying. I use sugar in
moderation in my diet and find SlimFast to be a healthy and convenient meal
replacement. I do not drink it more than one time a day. It's important to
get the bulk of your nutrients from "real food".

I was told by my nutritionist that slimfast, boost and ect...has too many
calories, fat and sugar for us.

I drink the fruit flavored (Soy-based) SlimFast for breakfast every day -
and have every day since my surgery (OpenVBG) on June 11, 2001. I LOVE the
Orange-Pineapple flavor (over ice) and look forward to it every day!! I've
lost 72lbs -

The slim fast is a little high in sugar so for breakfast I mix a sugar free
mocha flavored carnation instant breakfast with a cup of ice, a cup or so
of mocha flavored soy milk and a banana. Mix in the blender and enjoy,
tastes great, takes a while to eat because it is so cold and it is good for
you. I am now 20 pounds from goal and still love this for breakfast.

Don't stock up on any one thing until after you have the surgery.
Everyone's different and has different tolerances. I can't tolerate large
amounts of sugar or bread. I can eat any kind of meat (yes, even steak),
but the mere mention of Slimfast and Carnation Instant Breakfast is enough
to make me queasy! Try it if you want to and within 15 minutes you'll know
if you can tolerate it or not. Believe me, you'll know!

My nutritionist recommended the powder form of the new Slim Fast Soy
Protein. Its chocolate flavored and tastes pretty good. It is low in sugar
and has 15 grams of protein and mixes with water. I wish it came in more
flavors.

I have used Slim-Fast Soy since my lap RNY a month ago as recommended by my
MD. NO PROBLEM! It must have changed formulas because what I read is so
much different from what I am reading in these posts. 15 g Protein, 170
cals. 26 g carbs... all less than 10% RDA at 3 or 4 a day semms OK, not
full time but as a supplement it has worked great. I have avgeraged about
10 lbs /wk loss this 1st month.
