Question:
Anyone else get smelly burps?
I don't just burp... I get the most horrible, foul-smelling burps. They taste awful, too. I'm 12 days post op. I was wondering if this was normal... Will it go away? It's *so embarrassing. Thanks! — FireJewel (posted on September 1, 2001)

No, this is not normal. It could be a mild case of bacterial food
poisoning--I had it several times as a child--we kids called it the
"egg burps". It your burps smell and taste like rank rotten
eggs, that may be all it is. Drinking diluted pickle juice or vinegar
helps. (No kidding.) If it is worse or different than that, or lasts more
than 2-3 days, or there is pain, diarrhea, fever, swollen belly, or other
additonal symptoms, call your surgeon. It could be an infection or
bacterial overgrowth or something else of concern like that. Good luck.

after years of this happening to me i started to keep track of what i ate
that day that it happened. i have learned that the seeds & skin of some
veggies do it to me eg:cucumbers & fresh peppers. i now peel the skin
& make sure it is seed free. wala...i can enjoy the veggie. green
onions (scallions) r a big culprit so i no longer eat them at all. by the
way i have not had my wls yet so its not an effect for me from surgery. u
might want to start tracking what u eat & maybe u will discover that
certain foods no longer agree with ur new tummy.
