Question:
Does hormones and anti depressants cause slower weight loss?
My weight loss seems to be slower than others. I'm not overly concerned, but it does pop into my mind when I continue reading people loosing 100 lbs. at 6 mos. I'm 6 mos. and have lost only 73. Does anyone know if hormones & antidepressants will cause slower loss? I don't eat that many veggies ... would it help to eat more of those too? — Betty Todd (posted on July 16, 2001)

I have been on both and I am 3 months post-op. I have not noticed it
stopping me from losing weight. I have lost 75 pounds so far. You might
also need to consider how much weight you need to lose. Those of us who
need to lose over 100 pounds will lose faster than those who need to lose
only about 100 pounds. Sounds like you are doing fine with me. What diet
could you have tried and had that much sucess so fast?!

Betty, I too am a slow loser. I'm down 70 lbs in 7 months. Granted I had
a lower BMI to begin with (41) but I think some people just lose slower
than others. I am also on prozac, everything I have read about it says
that it is actually supposed to help with food cravings. Some Dr.
perscribe it for weight loss. Don't worry, I know (first hand) that it is
furstrating. but hang in there it will happen.

Betty, Congrats on such a great weight loss. I'm 7 months post-op and have
only lost about 67 pounds. I've been on a plateau for about a month now,
and it's making me crazy. Anyway, you are not losing too slowly. As
mentioned previously, everyone loses at a different pace. I'm on steroids
and antidepressants. I know the steroids have made me gain roughly 100
pounds over the past several years, and who knows about the
antidepressants, but it doesn't matter. 7 months ago, I couldn't walk more
than a block or so, would be tired all the time and was always sick. When
you get frustrated about the pace of your weight loss, try to focus on
other things, like the improvement in your health and/or physical fitness,
or maybe take your measurements and notice the difference. Buying new
clothes always does it for me! :-) Just remember it's not a race. Good
luck and congrats again. Maria
