Question:
2 weeks post-op, Eating too much.
Hello, I had surgery 6/11. I get hungry, which is really disappointing. I was hungry all the time before surgery, but am still hungry with surgery. I have an ounce or two of soup for breakfast and lunch, but last night I ate two ounces of the wonton soup broth, and a whole (small) wonton. Then I ate a mini-reese's peanut butter cup. What am I doing wrong? I still get hungry and feel like eating! — ua V. (posted on June 21, 2001)

I had surgery 9 weeks ago, and some days are good, and some are bad. I
think you are doing fine, except for the chocolate! :) Did you have DS or
RNY? Just think of how much less you are eating than before surgery. I get
hungry too, I know some people do not get hungry, but that has never been
the case for me. The good news is, when I eat, it takes a very small amount
for me to get satisfied. If you stop when your satisfied, and do not stuff
yourself you will be fine! Good Luck!

I don't know what kind of surgery you had but I had BPD/DS and was off of
liquids by the second week. I don't think I could have handled 6 weeks of
liquids! I was constantly hungry. Maybe try something other than soup, like
mashed potatoes, they might stick with you longer. Or even a protein drink.
It will keep your blood sugar leveled, and maybe not make you as hungry

Hey, it sounds to me like you're doing pretty well (except for the candy,
maybe). You should take a real hard look at what you reported eating in a
day and then look at the title of your message (Eating too much). They
don't match!! You've hardly eaten anything! It was mostly liquid. Of
course you feel like eating! Liquids pass through your pouch very quickly.
But, this is a necessary time for your pouch to heal. I think you will
find as you get back on soft and then regular food, you will start
experiencing the feeling of fullness.
