Question:
I was wondering if anyone had a list of what to have right after surgery?
Even though Ive researched the Open RNY surgery for over 2yrs, and fought two insurance compaines to get approval, I know that ive educated myself fully on everything. My date is June 11 and Im getting so anxious and VERY nerveous. The thing is, is that im not sure about what I should have at home after surgery. Like foods, drinks, vitamins, etc. I have my pre-op testing May 25, and was wondering will they tell me all this when I go, or should I already know all this??*Laughs* Im driving myself and my husband nuts, because I feel like im so unprepared (Or at least I want everything to be at the house) for after the surgery. Not to mention I dont even have a clue of what pre-op testing they will be doing. My husband said last night well hon you got a couple weeks yet, im sure they will send you the paper work, but im so anxious to know EVERYTHING I need to know. I just recently (March30) had back surgery and Im just really getting to feel better now, thats why we had to back my WLS surgery up till June. But Id like to know if anyone out there has a list of things that I should have or any ideas how to make sure I have everything I need at my home before surgery. My husband can only take a week off from work, and hes planning on staying in Cleveland with me because we live so far away and he doesnt want me to be alone, So I guess it will be up to me after I come home to take care of things. So any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated... I know im rambling, but the closer it gets the more anxiety Im having LoL... — Ann A. (posted on May 10, 2001)

Every doctor is different about immediate post op diets and you should
follow you doc's instructions and he will give you instructions. However,
most docs put you on a clear liquid diet. You should have sugar free jello,
broths, sugar free popcicles, sugar free puddings, low fat cream soups and
protein shakes at the house for when you get home from the hospital. Some
docs don't allow the puddings and cream soups right away but mine did.
Good luck!!
