Question:
Why are we not supposed to drink water with our meals?
I have always drank water when eating. What is the reasoning behind not wanting us to? I have to admit that I'm eight weeks post-op and have done this a couple of times with no problems. Just wondering :) — S.A. C. (posted on May 7, 2001)

what i believe I heard, and it makes sense, is that the water or liquid
washes the food out of our new small stomach pouch fast and doesnt allow us
to have the "full" feeling long enough.. to not be hungry until
the next meal. I am 11 weeks out and tried to drink while eating and
cant...seems like there is not enough room in there for both!

I was told by my nutritionist that drinking with your meals can cause
dumping or just plain vomiting. I have tried to drink with a meal (I am 15
days post-op) and I can't do it. And all I eat is mostly soups. I hope
that this helps.

What Gail said is correct. When drinking the same time as eating, your
food is swept out quicker, therefore, not filling you up. That is how you
can also feel nauseous, by too much food in your system. There is nothing
wrong with taking an occasional sip to help rinse out your mouth, from what
I was told. Just be careful.
