Question:
What does case manager mean?
I have been told I'll be assigned a Case Manager. What does this mean? I was also told verbaly) they determined that this would be covered by insurance. I am attending the seminar by my surgeon in the morning. Does this mean what I think it means? They will pay for it? — Brenda Kay U. (posted on February 24, 2001)

Brenda- A case manager is usually an RN (or in the case of mental health a
therapist)who handles the review of your request for surgery and makes the
decision to approve. You should find out who your case manager is and get
his/her extension at the insurance company. Your case manager will be who
you want to contact if you have any problems or concerns regarding
insurance. Your case manager will have the most information regarding YOU
and your appoval/denial for surgery. Hope this helps...good luck!

Do you happen to have Cigna insurance? The reason I ask is because my son
was very premature and was in the hospital the first four months of life. I
was assigned a case manager too. They are the intermediary between you and
insurance company. Sometimes this is done for things that are very
expensive. They even questioned my son's life saving care cost! Don't
worry. She'll help you fight their complaints.
