Hi Laura. Dr. Herron is performing my surgery in Manhattan on Aug. 21, 2000. He belongs to Surgical Associates of Mount Sinai. I have Aetna HMO and was approved in less than 24 hours! I hope that this information helps you!

Dr. J. Ken Champion of Atlanta, GA, is an internationally known thoracic/vascular surgeon who specializes in lap RNY. His web site is www.drchampion.com. Patients travel to him from all over the US. You might contact his office re: your insurance carrier. Good luck!

Laura...try looking aat major medical schools near you. The surgeons who do RNY/ LAP RNY are generally in-network providers. I went to the Medical College of Virgina and had surgery with Dr. Eric DeMaria. He trains lap surgeons across the country. Perhaps contacting his office in Richmond, VA can help you locate someone REPUTABLE in your neck of the woods....one word of caution....it seems like everyone is trying to get their feet wet with doing the procedures laparoscopically now. Check the background of whoever you do choose to make sure that they are experienced with doing the procedure as LAP. As with any surgery there are risks, but you don't want to take any unneccessarily because the surgeon isn't as experienced with the equipment!
