Question:
Has anyone experienced general weakness in the 3 week post-op timeframe?

In the first 18 days post-op, I had no issues with weakness. I have lost 30 pounds at the 3 week mark and am thinking my weakness is attributable to the rapid loss. Anyone experienced anything similar? Any suggestions? I am eating exactly as prescribed and exercising regularly.    — Mari R. (posted on May 29, 2000)

I take 500 mcb of B12 daily - and will for the rest of my life (according to my surgeon). This, I believe, helps tremendously with the energy level and it aids the body in healing from this surgery. I also take two multi-vitamins a day and extra calcium. You didn't mention whether you were doing the above. I believe a little general weakness would be normal after any type of surgery as it takes the body a good 6 to 8 weeks to heal inside with some continued internal healing going on for months afterwards. I think it is great that you've lost 30 pounds in three weeks! Congratulations!!! I suggest you don't push yourself to hard yet, relax and let the body heal itself and enjoy this new way of experiencing food and the fantastic weight loss benefits of the surgery! Best wishes.

I am four weeks and four days post-op and I also have a lot of weakness. I am taking all my supplements as I should but find that I am completely exhausted just walking up the stairs or going grocery shopping. I am told this is normal and it gets better ... I hope so! :) I hope you have plenty of time to rest, I know it has helped me tremendously. Good luck to you.

You didn't say how much protein supplement you are getting in. I'm not referring to milk + CIB, but genuine protien supplement. It is impossible to absorb enough protein from food or the m+CIB, so you'd be feeling rather wobbly by now. I use a good protein supplement that mixed with water so there are no calories or sugars beyond the supp itself. The other thing to check for is your water intake. You need a LOT of water to do this job and if you're shorting yourself, weakness is one of the symptoms. 2qts per day. 64 oz. 8 oz 8 oz glasses. No matter how you count it, GET IT. Please?
