Question:
I'm 4 weeks post op and I think I can eat way too much. My doctor said the pouch

would only be able to hold about an ounce of food at a time, but I think I can eat about 3-4 ounces of food at a sitting. By the way I was o.k. for solids on the 3rd week. This is really scaring me because I've read posts from other people that can barely eat and I have no problem eating. I haven't been eating anything high in fat or sugar but nonetheless I'm still afraid. I've lost about 20 lbs and had the open RNY procedure. Has anyone else experienced this? Please help.    — [Anonymous] (posted on April 1, 2000)

I noticed right away that I could eat larger quantities (3-4 ounces) of yogurt, baby food fruits, and soft mushy food thats passed right thru you. I mentioned it to my nutritionist and she said basically because it was so smooth it really did practically pass right thru. Now that I'm on soft/regular foods, I can't eat that much. I can shovel in 4 oz of pureed apricots, but can barely get thru 1-2 oz of chicken. It depends on the food, actually. 3-4 oz of crabmeat is no problem! Do you eat these 'larger quantities' at every meal or just with certain foods once or twice a day? For me, even 4 oz is a small fraction of what I ate before, and I'm losing weight, so I'm pretty happy.

I have no problem eating either. I am 21/2 months post op. I can eat any thing also and wondered if there was something wrong but I guess because I followed the directions I can eat what ever. I still only eat the alotted amount. I still lose weight. I guess we are the lucky ones. 1-24-2000 surgery date. Dawn
