Question:
I'm 2 weeks post-op and my doctor has me measure everything in a 30 cc cup. If I
have tomato soup, yogurt, sweet potato, etc. everything has to be measured and eaten about an hour apart. Does anyone else have to do this or do you eat until you're full? I plan on going back to work next week and find this is going to be really hard to manage. — Nicole B. (posted on March 22, 2000)

Hi Myrna
My surgery was 3/6; I'm still in the 'pureed food' stage, but expect my doc
to advance my diet this week. 30 cc is 1 ounce (or a shot glass); My doc
has me measure my protein, which is basically all I've been able to eat.
His instructions are to eat protein first, stop eating when full. I
haven't had more than a teaspoon of potatoes, veggies, etc! If you are
still following the pureed diet (or if you are measuring one ounce portions
and still eating every 1.5-2 hours) it should still be relatively easy to
manage: like 2 oz yogurt at 9, some tuna and crackers at 11; turkey or
lowfat cheese slices at 1:00; cottage cheese at 3:00; milk or protein drink
at 5:00. I'm sure your doc will advance your diet to eating 3 meals a day
very soon.

DO EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DR SAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKING OUR OWN SET OF RULES IS
WHAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE. You may eat until your full,
then eat a little too fast and over eat and then start stretching your
stomach and more each day and guess where you are. YOUR DR KNOWS BEST. Get
your self to a support group or get some kind of support going for your
self immediately. Good Luck
