Question:
Is taking Pain Medication by mouth different after WLS?

I get really sick if I take any kind of narcotic(darvocet, perkocet, etc.) on an empty stomach. I'm concerned about this after surgery. Will it be different with such a little pouch?    — Tina H. (posted on January 14, 2000)

For me that was certainly true! Post-op, your doc should give you a list of no-no meds. But discuss all that with him.

Hi Tina: I came home from the hospital on Percocet, and took them whole with a drink of water. No problems! I've taken pills from the beginning, and never had problems with any of them. I take about 15 pills in the morning (meds, vitamins, etc.) and can now take 2-4 pills at a time with a drink of water. I usually wait a few minutes between swallows, and so it takes me 20 minutes or so to get them all down. Remember, as always, every person is different. Good luck! Jaye Carl, open proximal RNY 7-29-99, just broke a plateau!!! 89 pounds gone forever!
