Question:
When I called my BCBS of Mich. to get information
regarding my approval/denial for surgery, a representative told me they are not allowed to give any information to me. I have to wait for my surgeons office to contact me. Has anyone else had this experience? — Kay R. (posted on October 12, 1999)

Kay,
Call your state insurance commission and ask if this is true for your
state. Also I finally called and got a case manager for my specicfic case
due to speaking with atleast 4 people before I said "wait a minute I
need to build repoire with these people" so I have onw person I call
and one person at the state insurance office to talk to.:) Paige

I have BC/BS of IL and I never get to speak to the person doing the review
- they tell me that she never accepts phone calls. The best I can do is
talk to customer service and I do try to talk to the same person each time.
They also would not tell me over the phone both times when they denied
coverage. Waiting two days for the letter is very stressful.
Good luck - Mary P

I have BC/BS of Michigan, and I did not have this problem. My doctor's
office gave me the surgery procedure code, and the diagnosis code. I
called BC/BS to see if it would be covered and they told me it would. I
was not even a BC/BS subscriber yet when I called.
