Question:
My insurance has an age exclusion clause. Where do I go to find out the national
age standard set by bariatric surgeons? I am considering appealing this exclusion and this info would be helpful. — Kathleen A. (posted on February 18, 2005)

That's the 1st I've ever heard of. I'm just kind of curious as to what the
cut off age was for the insurance? My doctor said they would never do
surgery on someone over the age of 60.

I would contact one of the obesity lawyers... if an insurance company can
impose an age limit.... sounds illegal. Now as far as 'surgeons' go - yes
alot of them do, due to malpractice coverages.. some cut off at 50 some
older. I know that surgeons doing the lapband are offering it to even
older patients. If you make the 'age' limit of your surgeon; and its just
the insruance company - call a lawyer.
