nearly 100% of us have had to have a pscyh. consult.. Nothing strange about that. It is to see if you are capable of caring for all the changes you will experience after surgery.

I agree with Delores; my consult was painles (lol) and in fact he was informative. They really want to make sure you understand what you are getting into and what a life change this surgery will do to you. Take care.

I live in North Carolina also. I think most everyone has to see a psychologist before hand. What I found interesting in my area is that they required you to see Dr. Jeffrey Smith. He is the only psychologist they would accept but he does specialize in weight loss. My consultation with him was good. The charge was $300 in which I had to pay out of pocket but he did tell me that when the surgery was approved to write a letter to BCBS and request them to reimbursement me under my medical not mental.
