Question:
would anyone send me pix of their anchor incisions post TT?
I am seeing a PS next week and really want to know what I am talking about. I am very curious to see what kind of scarring people have post TT both anchor and not but I am leaning toward the anchor. THANK YOU!!!! — Carol S. (posted on September 17, 2003)

Your PS will likely be the one to decide if an anchor incision is right or
not. While that is one option my surgeon feels he may need to do something
unconventional because of some of the particular things I have going on.
He actually feels most comfortable doing from below breasts to groin area
in 2 surgeries. He said it would be very extensive to do in one and he is
afraid of losing too much blood supply and ending up with some dead skin -
no thank you! He's not saying he absolutely won't do one but is not
leaning towards it. He said if it is done as one I would have to be in the
hospital for a few days etc. While an anchor incision is logical for most,
I have two unusual outpouchings of stretched out skin, right below my
breasts, and then I have quite tight muscle/banding below that at the waist
area. This will make it difficult to pull the skin down like is normally
done. It also would be difficult to get rid of all the stretched
outpouchings through just the vertical portion. He feels for me that to do
basically from the belly button down and do either an abdominoplasty or
belt lipectomy will give the best results. This would be a horizontal
incision. Then probably 2 months later, after the blood supply is
rejuveniated, he would do the part above the belly button and do another
horizontal incision so as to remove that skin the best and tighten
everything up and contour the back and waist.
<p>So, while you have your desires please do listen to the PS and
allow him or her to do what is best for your particular situation. My
surgeon said in all the abdominal work he has done he hasn't seen anything
quite like I have, and therefore it will take some creativity to have
things turn out the best. Good Luck!

I had the hip to hip incision and it's almost completely disappeared after
13 months. The anchor incision should only be used for people who have
HUGE stomachs. A lot of old PS's still use this on people who were
formerly overweight and they don't need to. Always get 2 or 3 PS opinions
from doctors of different ages/backgrounds. I'm glad I went to a younger
PS. He did a great job on the tt. The older PS wanted to give me the
anchor cut and I said NO WAY. I'm glad I didn't do that. I would have had
a completely unnecessary scar running down the middle of my chest to my
groin.
