Question:
can watermelon strech the pouch
I just read the post about water streching the pouch and even thogh i knew it couldnt , it got me thinking about watermelon. I am at 145 from 275 nov 2002, i am loseing fine , except only 5 pounds this month and i know it is because i am now only 15 pounds from goal. so my question is all summer one of the few things i have really been able to eat alot of is watermelon. and believe me i do when i get the chance, when i eat it ieat quite alot and get real full can the melon strech the pouch or does it act more like water, thanks — terri R. I'm pre-op and don't have the answer to your question. I did want to pass
on some information that I found the other day tho about watermelon. I've
been doing the South Beach Diet (on best sellers list right now) and it
lists watermelon as one of the highest natural sugar fruits. It has a
gltcemic index of 103 which is twice as much as an apple. It may be a
fruit you will want to cut back on. I love it too. I wonder too if you
can eat more of it because of its natural water content in it.

I also have been eating watermelon this summer and will eat a pretty good
slice at once. Take a slice of watermelon and break it down and just see
how much the pulp breaks down to. I would not go too overboard but it
should be fine. Just eat it after the protein and there won't be as much
room for lots. Enjoy!

I don't know the scientific answer to your question... and I'm doubtful
anyone really kknows.. but I'd guess that VOLUME is probably the most
important factor in stretching the pouch.. so like all things you eat
--moderation-- is the key. For me, I try to remember that my goal in
eating is NOT seeing how much I can possibly eat, but eating a moderate
amount that satisfies me both physically AND emotionally without making me
uncomfortable. Thats a goal and I'm FAR from perfect. By the way, this
post will eventually have the watermelon police out... but I've eaten
watermelon since about 3 months post op, and lost 174 pounds so far..
hasn't hurt me any... like I said.. moderation. Good luck.. watermelon is
STILL a joy for me!

Not sure if watermelon would stretch your pouch (maybe if you ate the whole
watermelon!), but I do agree that watermelon is a very high glycemic food
and should be eaten in moderation. You know something that tastes that
good has got to have a downside-LOL. It sounds like you are doing
fantastic so I wouldn't sweat it. Good job!
