Question:
Has any other post op experience sex desires through the roof?

I am 15 months post op and my hormones must be through the roof. I am horny all the time 24-7. This has my boyfriend both happy and upset. I can't get it to go away. Anyone have any suggestions. Not that I am complaining but the slightest thing is setting me off. — Chris9672 (posted on August 14, 2003)

It probably does have a hormonal basis. However, I know when I had initially lost the bulk of my weight I had a GREATLY increased sex drive. I chalked it up to being able to be more physically active and ummmmmm.........adventuresome. I also lost alot of my inhibitions and begged my husband to let me use our key to stop the elevator in our building and get a little crazy. He just looked at me like I WAS crazy. Luckily it does balance out. I still have an increased desire but I think it's within the normal range and only occasionally want to get a little nuts. My husband is happy about the increased desire but is still to conservative to let me use the elevator key. ha ha

My sex drive has been in overdrive since my 3rd day post-op and that was 17 months ago. Hubby never complains although sometimes I have to be patient with the fact that he likes to tell me I'm a nympho (isn't that a good thing?) -- Sometimes I swear I have the sex drive of 2 people but inless it starts causing problems I'm not going to try and change it *smile* ~K

Hell ya my sex drive is through the roof. Unfortunately I don't have girlfriend at the moment and if I did I'd probably have her bowlegged for months on end!
Here's my take on the sex drive issue. Estrogen is stored in fat for both men and women. Testosterone increases sex drive. When we are pre-op we have much more estrogen in our system then we do testosterone. As we lose weight, we lose fat and estrogen (anorexic women have very irregular periods since they don't have the fat to store the necessary estrogen and very obese women can have a similar problem since they have to much estrogen during the cycle) and the estrogen/testosterone levels swings over to the Testosterone side resulting in increased horniness. Being competitive also slightly increases testosterone and I think just being very active in general ups the testosterone levels. Take all this at once and our body is not used to the increase in Testosterone but eventually gets used to it and we simmer down afte a while, probably when our weightloss slows to normal (1-2 pounds a week max).
Just my speculation about the whole ordeal.. Take it or leave it as you please.
Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!

I have heard it goes either way...up or down. Just within the past month mine has also gone through the roof. I think self-confidence is a key factor too, as the pounds shed, I find myself with my head higher and my chest out (like it doesn't already). My significant other is not complaining at all, so it can't be a bad thing. Open RNY ~ May 9th 2003
