Question:
What is considered
I've been told about 100 times that my bp is too high. Yesterday, the doc took it & it was 123/70. I thought that this was pretty good (much better than the time I had 190/90). So what's the deal? — Annie H. (posted on August 8, 2003)

That is a good bp reading. I don't know WHY they would say it's high!!

Hi... you have a great reading!! The 190/90 is HIGH, but you are doing
better!! As long as it stays around those second numbers, you will be fine!

123/70 is an EXCELLENT pressure, and it's what my BP reading had been for
years before it began to slowly creep up to borderline high. Whenever my
readings measured around the 120/70 range, i was always told (by many
different doctors/nurses) it was a great pressure.

I was told 2 days ago by a insurance benefits rep that the hypertension is
now 140+ on top and I can't remember what was considered high as the bottom
reading! But I do know that with my BP at 139, I am now considered
borderline hypertensive. Go figure.

123/70 is an average BP. Our BP usually raises as we get older. Docs
become concerned when the bottom number remains above 80 for a period of
time. They are not usually concerned with the top number unless it's over
160.

Wow, that is excellent. My doctor would love it if I could get my pressure
UP to yours! I tend to waver around 90/60, or 85/60 which is so low that I
think his office staff is always surprised to see that I'm still alive. :)
