Question:
I'm looking for anyone who was 5'2 and 290 lbs before surgery!

I wanted to know how much weight you lost, how long? I'm still waiting for insurance approval, it's taking so long! Do you think I'll be approved being this big, I have PPO+ insurance.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 15, 2003)

I am 5'2" and was 282 at surgery! I am what they call a slow loser I am 4.5 months post-op and have lost 56 lbs! I lose for 2 weeks and then stop. I have even gained since surgery! But it always comes back off. I have to watch everything that I put in my mouth and I exercise like a crazy woman!

I am 5'2.5" and started out at 282. I currently weigh about 136 (I flux as much as 10 lbs). I'll be two years post on 7/17/03. I had no problem being approved. My co-morbs included high blood pressure and joint pains. Best wishes to you on your wls journey. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -150ish

Cheryl, I'm 5'2 and was 286 on day of surgery-1/13/03. I now weigh 210. I feel that's slow, but according to the charts on OH.com I'm right on target. Good luck!

Hi! I was 287 lbs and 5'3. i am now 4 months post-op and have lost down to 209! 78 ugly pounds gone!!! I have found this to be an exciting time in my life. I have loved going 'backwards' in my closet, throwing out my 4X's, then the 3X's, then the 2X's and I am now in 1X and they are very loose! I have started buying some new clothes because I now realize that I am going to slow down now. My Surgeon stated that I should lose about 30 lbs the 1st month, 20 the 2nd month , about 10 the 3rd month and then between 1 and 10 lbs for the months there after. I love it! Good Luck!!

I fit your profile exactly. My surgery date was 12/30/02 and am down 85+ as of 2 weeks ago. I don't weigh myself very often, but I started at size 28 and just got into size 16 shorts! Hand in there, it seems like it will be forever, but time really does fly by. I don't think you should have any trouble getting approval. My one piece of advice is not to gain any weight before surgery. My sister was actually in pre-op and told to go home because she put on 20# by the day of the surgery. She is now back on track and has lost 23# and rescheduled. Best wishes!

I'm 5'2 and started out at 275 lbs. I had my WLS on 4/3/03. I am now down to 228 lbs. I'm considered a lightweight and will lose slowly. But so far I'm very happy at my loss. I just have to remember that it's faster than when I would diet. Good luck!

I fit your profile almost to a tee. I'm 5'4", and pre surgery weighed in at 291. I had mine on 4/24/03, and at 7 weeks out, am down 40lbs. I'm proud of the loss, but do wish it was faster. However, it is better to loose it a little slower, as it gives your skin a chance to "shrink" with you. Just remember. Everyone looses at a different rate. Good luck and God bless!!

Hi! I, too, almost fit your profile to a "T". My surgery was 2-19-03. That day, I was 277 lbs and 5'2". It's now been about 4 months and I've lost 86 pounds to 191. I feel great... (my bones are actually starting to stick out!!:) My goal is about 125 pounds.. I hope to be there by the end of the year. Best of luck!!

I started out at 5'1" and 265. As of today (2 months + 2 days post), I am down 44 lbs. I am a mediocre (sp) loser. I'm slow by some standards but fast to others. With each passing day I feel so much better it's amazing. I didn't even realize how bad I felt before until feeling as good as I do now. Good luck!
