Beef is an excellent source of protein.

I didn't even try red meat until I was 6 months out. I'm 10 months out now and only beginning to get comfortable with small amounts of it. Red meat is really hard on your digestive tract.

I first had nice rare porterhouse at about a month post op cut into pencil eraser sized bits. I LOVE it on the gas grill and have it often, including all winter long. Its tasty and a excellent source of protein. I remember fretting eating my last seak before surgery afraid I could never eat it again. What a waste!!!!

There is nothing wrong with eating steak if youc can tolerate it, and it is an excellent source of protein. I can eat steak, but forget about ground beef of any type - it sits like lead no matter what I do with it or to it.

I'm the opposite of Susan Kennedy. I can eat ground beef but steak gives me fits. I recently found that if I mix the steak with something like potatoes or rice it goes much better but I don't want to have to "hide" my steak in a side dish in order to tolerate it. However, if I could eat it, I would.

I love steak and it is a great source of protein. All meats/poultry/fish are good sources of protein and all have 7 grams of protein per oz. I would suggest that you use lean cuts of meat and trim away any fat-the top/bottom round steak is usually the leanest. My favorite is to broil/grill steak and then take to work the next day to put over a salad-yum! Only caution: reheated steak in a microwave can dry it out and like any dried out meat/chicken, it can be tough to eat and not sit well in the pouch-fresh is better.

Even at 18 months post-op I can't eat steak or ribs. I can eat hamburger without a problem. For me, the consistancy of a food determines if my stomach likes it.

Filet mignon was one of the easiest things on my tummy at a time when all protein hurt. I still eat it about once a week, sometimes twice. I think it is all trial and error. I don't eat red meat daily only because it is pretty high in fat and calories. They add up fast at this point and I want to get this last 35 off as quickly as possible. The 3 ounce steak that I will be having for lunch today has 28 grams of protein, so I would consider that an excellent source of protein. I try to get in about 90 grams per day or more if I can.

Great source of protein!! I hated all meat for the first four or five months then all of a sudden I could eat it again. I can eat a steak no problem, the better quality the easier it is. I agree with Carol about the Filet Mignon.

I can eat most steaks, but have problems with hamburgers. I can eat meatloaf and ground meat in other forms, but burgers come right back up almost every time. I also have some difficulty with white menat chicken. Seafood is iffy, especially if it has been frozen. I had shrimp tonight and it was great. I think it has more to do with texture than anything else!!

Shortly after my surgery, I couldn't eat hamburger meat (ground round, ground chuck, ground beef). I would get extremely sick. However, I could eat steak and it didn't bother me, but I had a very small portion of it. I still can't eat a lot of it, so I love it when I do eat it!
