Question:
I am looking for WEB Sites that will give me any
information on Doctors and their statistics/experience, pros and cons, risks, etc. I know you all have been at this alot longer than I and may have some of this information? SHARI — Shari M. (posted on April 23, 2003)

Shari have you looked at the surgeon area here? At the top of the page
click find a Doc. put in your state and there is a nice list there. Hope
that helps. It was a great help to me.

Shari, I checked out my doctors credentials by going to a search engine (I
picked Google) and just asked the question, "Where can I find out if a
doctor is board certified in the State of Georgia?", then click on
"m feeling lucky" and VOILA!!...there it is. As far as the
statistic, you may have to ask your surgeon of choice up front...How many
surgeries have you performed? How many mortalities has there been of the
surgeries you have performed? What type of surgeries do you specialize
in?" ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS as you want. If he/she is not cooperative
or invasive about answering your questions, then move on to another
surgeon. We are talking about YOUR LIFE here. (Read my profile-my PCP made
a suggestion as to the person he wanted me to go to and I wasn't impressed
with what I found out~ So I went with someone completely out of my
insurance network. It cost me $$$ in the beginning, but it was well worth
it in my opinion). You can do the same for your particular state or choose
one of these without going through all of what I did:
http://www.medicalboard.state.ga.us/about_medbd.html (of course, where you
see I used "ga" as my state, you can use the abbreviation for
your state) or try this one...http://www.sos.state.ga.us/ebd. Hopefully
you will be supplied with enough information that you can kinda navigate
your way. When I was pre-op, I was so anxious, and didn't ask like you did,
which was what I should have done in the first place. This website (AMOS)
is GREAT in supplying information. Get all the information you can from
what each poster gives you and then build on it. It just so happened that
my surgeon had his own webstie. Maybe you can check and see if the same
applies for the one you're interested in. Sorry for being so long-winded. I
sure hope this helps you...at least it's a start :) Best Wishes to you! LAP
