Question:
Has anyone else had an enlarged heart?
I was told my heart was slightly enlarged in the ER the other night and as always the docs were in to big a hurry to explain it to me....all he did was give me a diuretic, potassium suppliment and a refferal to yet another cardiologist :( the last one said my heart was in perfect shape and sounded great my ekgs are normal .... maybe it's cause i had to watch my granny pass away last thursday of lung cancer i was with her all week right to the end...maybe the stress from that caused it.I was just wondering have any of you been told your heart was "Slightly Enlarged"? Were you able to still have your surgery? Any comments would be great. Thank You Michelle Pre-Op Dr.Robinson — skyeyez26 (posted on January 29, 2003)

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear about your grandmother. Stress does do alot of
damamge to the heart.
I also have an enlarged heart and as to answer your question, I am now
almost 16 months out. I have did really great. And to top it all off, I
had thought I was finished losing, and when I got on the scale this
morning, I am down to 131, and that is even when my evil monthly friend is
visiting lol. I wish you luck, I had to wear a 24 hour holter monitor and
have some test run to make sure I could stand the surgery. But I was in
great hands, Dr. Kaczmarski, is a wonderful surgeon. He saved my life, and
he gave me life in the process. I now hold a 9-5 job, and I take care of my
husband and four children, and I love my life. Heck, I even love my job,
go figure. If someone would have told me 2 years ago, I would be able to
work like I do, I would have laughed at them. Heck, I did not even want
to get out of bed, much less go to work and be able to be the kind of
mother my children needed, and the wife my husband needed..... If you want
to talk feel free to email me. But put WLS in the subject line.

Michelle,
I also had an enlarged heart. I was told it was because I had high
blood pressure and that heart had to work harder, thus it increased in
size. I am 4 months post-op and am doing just fine. I had to get a
cardiac clearance and that wasn't a problem, even with the enlarged heart.
The only problem I had after the surgery was my blood pressure went up very
high because I was off of my regular meds. But today, for example, my
blood pressure was 120/70. Good-luck to you,

I also have been told I have an enlarged heart (better than the no heart
some think I have). The doctors say it's because of the excess weight. I
am pre-op also (waiting on insurance)and everyone has assured me it will
not prevent the surgery from happening.
