Question:
Any post op MS complications?
I'm wondering if anyone with MS is post op, and if they feel that WLS affected them one way or another - good or bad. I was diagnosed 5 years ago and am RR, my last relapse over a year ago now. It seems relatively stable at this time. My short term concern is the possibility of throwing myself into a relapse; but on the flip side, long term I believe getting rid of the excess weight is going to help me a lot with fatigue, one of my major symptoms. I'd appreciate any input. You can email me at [email protected] or post here. Thanks! :-) — Debi R. (posted on January 17, 2003)

I was diagnosed with MS over 13 years ago and with the pregnancy of my son,
I went into remission, and have not had any further symptoms (sometimes
wonder if I was mis-diagnosed, but all the tests and MRI confirmed it). I
am still symptom free, more or less. When it was active I couldn't walk to
far, my right leg was very affected. I had burns all the time because I
couldn't feel hot/cold and my vision was distorted. Even if this surgery
could have brought it all back, at this point, I would say I was ready, I'm
healthier, stronger (physically and mentally) and happier than ever, and
would be more apt to deal with it.

I was diagnosed with MS at the age of 23. At age 28, I had WLS. Yes, it
did knock me into a period of relapse which lasted approximately six months
and was pretty nasty. Would I do it again? IN A HEARTBEAT. Now my MS is
in firm remission and my overall health has improved so significantly that
I do not fear relapsing again for a very very long time. Also, now that
I've lost 200+ lbs., I am not afraid about losing my ability to walk. It's
a lot easier for other people to help you when they can lift you! Feel
free to email chat anytime - I would love to help another MS-er.
