Question:
Slouching and back pain- Typical?
I am down 67 pounds and notice I am slouching and then getting upper back pain. Am I just getting used to the weight shifting around, picking up bad habits, or what? Thanks. — Marti R. (posted on January 6, 2003)

Are getting your calcium. Could be the cause. Just a guess.

I just posted on this a few weeks ago, I had the same problem and kept
thinking it was my bra....posture.... trapped gases... Finally (it doesn't
take me long) I went to the chiropractor. I had dislocated ribs along my
spine. He said that having surgery (with a rib spreader) makes that very
common, but to add to the injury, losing weight as fast as we do causes all
the organs to shrink too, this causes the rib cage to shift down and shifts
how we sit and hold ourselves. Yours may or may not require a Dr. or
Chiropractor, but I know that had I done something sooner, I wouldn't have
had all that pain for over 4 months. The advice here is great, but if we
have pain, we need to seek help. We had surgery to be good to ourselves,
now we need to remember to follow up on that and take care of ourselves ALL
the time. Good luck!

Try some deep tissue massage on the FRONT of your shoulders - between the
ball of the joint and the pec muscles. I just went through a bout with
this and my chiropracter. Because we just had abdominal surgery, we are
protecting our 'injury' by slouching and not stretching backwards. In my
case, my pec muscles were tightened too - which caused me to think my upper
back was out of alignment, and it really wasnt.
