Question:
Has anyone had surgery complications due to cesarian scarring?

I have had 2 cesarians and now I have heard that scar tissue in my abdomen from previous surgeries may complicate and lengthen surgery. I am just wondering if that includes cesarians. They were both bikini line incisions.    — Carol S. (posted on October 11, 2002)

Donna, Just to ecco what Carol said. I've also had a c-section and I am prone to scaring, but it was no problem for the LAP RNY.

I've had 3 C-sections and a Surgery from a tubal pregnancy. Total 4 altogether. I had RNY and have experienced no problems. It's been 17yrs since my last C-section and have never had any problems with scarring, etc. from my C-SECTIONS.

I had 4 c-sections prior to open RNY without any difficulties in scar tissue.

I had 3 c-sections prior to RNY. My scar is 9+ inches in length (!). Lap surgery went fine -- doc made adjustments to where he placed 7 "incisions".

I have had one c section my only surgery prior to rny and my sugery was infact longer and my scar was longer do to adhesion/scaring. It didnt effect my recovery just scared my hubby that I was on the table for an extended amount of time. But all went fine other than that.

It is possible to lengthen the surgery time and make it a little more difficult because the surgeon must go slower and get through all the previous scar tissue. But they won't know until they get in there and start doing it.

I also had had two c sections and I did not have problems or complications at all with my open rny. Dr did not even mention it. Good Luck

hello. i had 3 previous c-sections and 4 laparascopies to clean up uterine scarring (my uterus also ripped on my last pregnancy causing a lot of additional scarring) and i had open rny. turns out i had scar tissue that had worked its way up to my livers and around my intestines...my surgeon just "cleaned me up" while she was in there and it didn't take any longer than any other open rny. for me, i'm glad it was open because i'm not sure they would've seen all the scar tissue if it hadn't been. kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs

I had a bikini line cesarian around 13 years ago. During my lap RNY on May 3rd, my surgeon found big time adhesions. She said it was like someone had poured glue down my intestines. She had to open me up to clean me out (2 1/2 hours) and then do the RNY. So I had some of the lap scars and an open scar. I was devastated when I woke up with a big incision (had I wanted a scar, I would have done the surgery a couple/few years ago). But I'm ok with it now. My surgeon told me that if she had not have gone in, that eventually I would have had a bowel blockage and it would become an emergency. So it was a good thing. And now that I'm losing so much weight, I'm so much happier. :o)

Hi. I had 2 C-sections before my RNY surgery. My Dr. did a LAP surgery on me. She found an umbilical hernia and lots of scar adhesions from the previous sections. She fixed the hernia, removed the adhesions, did my RNY and still kept it LAP surgery. It added 3 hours onto my surgery but I was very pleased that she didn't open me up. (If she had, I would have understood that it was the best for my health.) Good luck to you!
