Question:
Complications from surgery through BTC in Ypsilanti
I am waiting for a sugery date at BTC in Ypsilanti and I have read about complications from other surgeons/hospitals that scare me a litle and I was wondering if anyone who had surgery at BTC had any complications caused by the surgery that required a second operation? — Karen R. Hi, has my RNY surgery there in January I am almost 8 months out, so far no
problems, not that I expect any. For me recovery was really kinda boring. I
have not tried any sugar ( dont want to know if I do or dont dump ) have
not thrown up, or gotten sick. I am enjoying the new me.
The BTC people there are really wonderful people.

I hate to hear about complications for any one anywhere,
especially since I am haveing surgery in less than a month.
However, as a nurse I know that NO procedure is with out
potetial complications. From the simplest to the most
complex there are always things that can go wrong.
I know that by being Morbidly obese I am at a higher
surgical risk than the average person. Another reality is
that different people 's bodies react to the stress of
surgery in different ways. Different people heal differently.
A lot may depend on general heath, diabetes, hypertension,
ability to be moving soon after surgery etc.
For example I had achilles tendon repairs on both
feet/ankles. One healed beautifully and I have no pain,
the other is awful, daily pain difficulty walking etc.
both were done by the same Dr. This is just how my body
healed. there is no Dr. or hospital that is without complications
or bad outcomes. This is because there are many things out
of their control such as how each person does react/ heal
differently. No one can promise you 100% everything will be
fine. I am having the surgery because the benefits out
weigh the risks and I know I will die sooner if I don't do the surgery.
Good luck with your surgery. I am going to BTC in Belvidere,
IL and like the fact that this is all they do and that they show respect
for heavy people by having properly fitting gowns, furniture
etc. I don't feel I'm treated like a 2nd class citizen there, I feel
normal.

I had surgery at BTC/Ypsilanti in October 2001. My recovery has been
completely uneventful. In fact, I just noticed how my scar is fading away.
I highly recommend the place!

Karen, I too had surgery at BTC in Ypsi on 7/2/02. My surgeon was Dr.
Batay-Csorba. I have had to problems except an allergy to the pain
meds.....They were very accomodating and the hospital is the cleanest that
I have ever been in. You will be in good hands. God bless you on your
travels to the "other side". (By the way, it has been 8 weeks and
I am down 45 lbs!!)
