Question:
A nutritionist told me soy products irritate intestines and are highly overrated prod
uct in this country. She also said that even though people try to "economize" calorize by eating just the egg white, the whole egg is preferable since all the nutrients are in the yolk (she had pix from a study to support her statement). I have not heard these things elsewhere. Is anyone familiar with these statements? — Marti R. (posted on August 4, 2002)

Yes. Many times. I agree completely with both statements.

I am confused. My dietician/nutritionist says all the protein is in the
white of the egg...

Lori - yes, all of the protein is in the egg white. All of the vitamins,
minerals, fat and cholesterol is in the egg yolk. You can easily get the
vitamins and minerals through your daily vitamins that you should be
taking. Feel free to skip the yolk and just use the egg whites if you
want to not deal with the fat/cholesterol issue. If you use Egg Beaters,
that is composed entirely of egg whites from what I am told.

I had always heard the protein was in the white, too. Actually, according
to the USDA's (I think that is who it was..!) nutrient database, there is
slightly more protein in an egg white but it isn't a huge difference 3/3 g
in the white, 2.7 g for the yolk. I didn't compare the other nutrients:
