Question:
OKAY YES I am NERVOUS, but one more question. Surgery is tomorrow and I am on
Paxil tabs. If I do not take them I get terrible headaches so what do you do in such a case? Are we allowed to swallow pills? I can go 2 to 3 days without them but then I get a terrible headache. Has anyone ever been weaned off of these? I hate this medication. Thanks for putting up with me guys! — Pilar E. (posted on June 12, 2002)

Do not stop taking your meds unless to do so by your surgeon. The pills can
be crushed for you. I'm not certain but I believe Paxil comes in a liquid
form. Make sure your nurse after surgery knows that you need this and the
dr. will allow it to be given. Good Luck and God Bless.

I agree with the previous poster - do not stop taking your Paxil, and
DEFINITELY let the nurse know as soon as you can that you need to take your
medication. I had my open RNY on 3/28/02, and take Effexor - which makes
me dizzy if I miss a dose or two. I didn't talk to the nurse about it, and
they forgot to give it to me! Yikes! Anyway, good luck with your surgery
and welcome to the losing side!

I am on birth control pills and the nurses crushed the pill, mixed it with
water, and put it in my tube, so no problem! GOOD LUCK with your surgery.
It's amazing.

hi. i am on several medications for pseudotumor cerebri which causes
constant unbearable migraines for me. The day after my surgery, the nurses
came in and gave me my regular doses and I took them. I have a strong
stomach and was able to handle them. But i'm sure they can crush them if
you couldn't. I didn't even have to ask for my meds, they already knew to
give them to me! goodluck, i wish you a successful surgery! i am 11 days
post-op and already down 18 pounds! :)
