What should I eat today if my surgery is tomorrow?

Hi Pilar. I'm surprised your surgeon didn't advise you on this. If I were
you, I would call them and ask. There are many schools of thought - I'm
sure you will get a wide variety of "advice" from post-ops. As
for me, I was on "Clear Liquids" for the 24 hours leading up to
surgery. Good Luck to you !!!! I wish you the best. Kevin

Anything your heart desires! I went for my "last meal" the
evening prior to my surgery and I'm glad I did it.

Hi...everyone's instructions are different, depending on the surgeon. I
had to eat light in the morning, and then liquids only (cream soups, etc)
in the afternoon, and then clear liquids after 6pm. That is when I had to
drink my magnesium citrate, too (YUCK). And I couldn't eat or drink
anything that was red.

My dr only said nothing by mouth after midnight. I did have a nice
"last meal." Call your dr to be sure, tho!

I was on clear liquids 3 days prior but didn't have to do any bowel pre-op.
Your doctor should have made it CLEAR to you what to do if you surgery is
TOMORROW.

My surgery is tomorrow also. My dr. has had me on all liquids since
Sunday. He told me to take my mag. citrate at 4 pm and all clear,
sugar-free liquids after that. Nothing after midnight.

every doctor is different. but if he did not advise you, then i am sure
that you do not have to do the clear liquid diet or drink the horrible
stuff either. I had my surgery 11 days ago and was happily surprised that I
did not have to prepare at all for it except I couldn't eat, drink or smoke
after midnight. I did have my last meal at 8pm. ofcourse, the surgeons and
nurses always advise not to have the "last supper" syndrome, but
they are not the ones having the surgery! But be sure to NOT eat or drink
after midnight, that is extremely important!! goodluck, i wish you well! :)

Every doctor is different. I had surgery on 5/24, and my surgeon told me
to eat a light lunch and nothing but liquids after 4pm. And i had to take
antibiotics every 20 min or so with milk or yougurt and drink plenty of
fluids. After midnight, i couldn't have anything. Needless to say, that's
when the anxiety set in and i was ready to eat (nerves)! Check with your
doctor early today and see what he says. You'll be fine! Good luck!!
You're in my prayers!
